One day, I asked my children to help me cut some papers. Most pieces came out well—except one. I got irritated. My wife gently reminded me, “They did everything well except that one.” She was right. Isn’t it so easy to overlook the good and fixate on the one mistake?
Sometimes, when people fail us, we withdraw and declare, “I don’t need anyone. I’ll trust only God.” After all, Micah 7:5 warns, “Don’t trust anyone—not even your best friend or your wife!” But that’s not the full picture.
God never meant for us to live in isolation. He Himself exists in perfect relationship—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—united in love and purpose (John 17:21; Matthew 3:16–17). He created us for relationship too—not just with Him (John 3:16), but with each other.
1 John 4:20–21 clearly says: “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar… Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.”
Yes, people will fail us. But so do we fail others—and yet God continues to love and trust us with His kingdom work. Love is the foundation of trust. And relationship is God’s beautiful idea—one that mirrors His own nature.
Let’s not give up on people too quickly.
Prayer
Father, thank You for loving me even when I fail. Help me to love and trust others the way You love and trust me. Heal my hurt, soften my heart, and strengthen my relationships. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
