“Papa, can you read this?” my child asked, showing me a page filled with strange symbols. I couldn’t understand it. But he explained, “This symbol means this, and that one means that. You have to apply this strategy.” He had created his own script—and while he could write anything in it, I needed his help to read it.
That moment reminded me of how we often try to make sense of life and relationships on our own—without turning to the One who designed them.
When God created human beings, He immediately spoke to them (Genesis 1:26–28). No other part of creation had that privilege. Human beings were designed not only to live—but to engage with God.
Do you ever wonder why God created you? Or why He brought you and your spouse together in marriage? The answer begins with Him. “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain” (Psalm 127:1).
Only the Creator knows the original design and the purpose behind it. He instituted marriage (Genesis 2:24), and He alone can show us what works, what needs correction, and what brings joy. Experimenting on our own without Him can lead to confusion and pain.
But if we keep seeking Him daily, we will begin to understand. His creation—including marriage—is both amazing and complex.
Prayer
Father, help me to turn to You daily for guidance. Teach me to see life and relationships through Your eyes. Give me wisdom to follow Your design and courage to trust Your voice. Amen.
